Dylan Reid won’t be signing for Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic as the St Mirren talent has joined Patrick Vieira at Crystal Palace.

Celtic are always in the mix for Scotland’s top talents.

Some end up slipping through the net or heading elsewhere, with Aaron Hickey springing to mind.

St Mirren midfielder Dylan Reid can now be added to that list having decided on a move to England.

Celtic were very keen on Reid in 2021 as then-St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin told BBC Sport that the midfielder had his head turned by interest from the Bhoys and other clubs.

The Daily Record claimed last summer that Celtic were holding talks with Reid in the hope of a deal finally being done, having agreed to pay £125,000.

Reid chose to stay at St Mirren in a shock U-turn, and Celtic’s lingering hope of reviving a deal has been killed off once and for all.

Celtic target Dylan Reid joins Crystal Palace

After weeks of rumours, Reid has now completed his move to Premier League side Crystal Palace.

Reid’s contract at St Mirren was set to expire this summer and the Buddies have decided to cash in before he walks away.

“Dylan is a kid with great potential and someone who I would have liked to have worked with more, but it was a very good deal for the football club and an ongoing deal that could rise,” said St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson.

It’s unclear just how much Palace are paying but St Mirren seemingly stand to add more cash down the line.

Reid, 17, has come up through the St Mirren ranks and looks set for a bright future.

Reid has already played eight times for St Mirren’s first team and will now join Palace’s developments ranks with the hope of becoming a Premier League regular.

Celtic may be a little frustrated to have missed out, especially as it’s a Scottish talent leaving Scotland for England.

Maybe Celtic can keep tabs on Reid moving forward, just in case the move to Palace doesn’t work out and a return north of the border can be engineered.
