Celtic are still in the market for a new right back, and there are very conflicting reports surrounding a move for Manchester City’s Yan Couto.

The Bhoys have seen Jonjoe Kenny head back to Everton this summer, and a host of right backs have been linked with moves to Parkhead.

George Baldock, Nathan Byrne, Josip Juranovic, Aurelio Buta, Sacha Boey, Brandon Soppy… the pursuit of a new right back has thrown up so many names.

Celtic’s strong ties with Manchester City have seen them target a deal for Couto, and there are mixed rumours emerging about the Brazilian this weekend.

Sky Sports claim that Couto was given ‘VIP treatment’ as he watched Celtic against Jablonec on Thursday, but is ‘undecided’ on a move to Parkhead.

That would suggest that Celtic’s hopes of a deal are in limbo, but the Daily Record offer a more encouraging outlook.

They state that Couto will plead with Manchester City to let him sign for Celtic, and a decision is expected in the next 24 hours.

An English Championship side have had an offer rejected, so it’s now Celtic v Girona – one of City’s partner clubs – in the race for the Brazilian.

Couto, 19, has been backed for a huge future and is considered to be an attack-minded right back amid comparisons to Dani Alves, and Celtic will be hoping that they win the race for Couto this week.
