Celtic have set their sights on Benson Anang of Slovakian outfit MSK Zilina as Ange Postecoglou’s pursuit of a new right-back goes on, according to Sports World Ghana.

In the space of six months, the Scottish Premiership champions bid farewell to three of the players who featured for them on the right-hand side an error-prone backline last season.

Jeremie Frimpong jumped ship for Bayer Leverkusen in January, Hatem Abd Elhamed wasn’t far behind while Jonjoe Kenny, the former Everton loanee, was only likely to be a short-term solution due to his £10 million asking price.

So, after tying up the eye-catching arrivals of Carl Starfelt, Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada, it was only a matter of time before Celtic made a new right-back their top priority.

And the list of candidates being linked with a move to Parkhead would make the Magna Carta look like a post-it note.

Have Celtic found an alternative option to Aurelio Buta?

Belgian publication Walfoot claim that Aurelio Buta is close to joining for £3 million but, as Celtic have already found out this summer, the transfer market is a fickle mistress.

Contingency plans are being drawn up and one of those appears to involve Anang, the 21-year-old Ghanaian international who currently plies his trade in Slovakia.

The athletic Benson helped MSK Zilina win the league title in 2020 and, should he join Celtic, will be looking to repeat the trick in Scotland.

Ange Postecoglou is expected to lead a riposte against bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers next term.

It is not certain how much Celtic would have to pay for Benson, with two years left on his contract at Zilina.
