Brendan Rodgers is believed to be interested in bring Middlesbrough’s Viktor Fischer to Celtic.

According to the Northern Echo, Mainz have made contact with Middlesbrough over the transfer of Viktor Fischer.

Boro boss Garry Monk is believed to be open to offloading Fischer this summer, after the Dane’s difficult first season at the Riverside Stadium.

Fischer was expected to have a major impact on Teeside, when he was brought in from Ajax last summer, but he has failed to impress.

Mainz have now made the first move for Fischer, and that should spark Celtic into action.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are said to be keen to snap up Fischer this summer, and retain an interest in the 23-year-old (Northern Echo).

However, Celtic are in danger of being left behind in the race for the attacking midfielder’s signature, unless they act quickly.

Mainz have stolen a march on Celtic, and it remains to be seen whether Rodgers will respond to the German side’s interest.

Fischer would be an eye catching addition for Celtic, and could have the potential to be a real star in Glasgow.

And if Rodgers is keen to bring Fischer to Parkhead, he would be wise to make a move sooner rather than later.
