Celtic are still on the hunt to sign a replacement for Neil Lennon.
Lennon quit his role as Hoops boss last week and according to Give Me Sport, former Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill is a serious candidate.
O’Neill is in charge of Stoke City right now and if he winds up at Celtic, it makes you wonder if he’ll take a Bhoys-mad player with him.
It’s no secret that City winger James McClean is a diehard fan of the Parkhead club and has often spoken about his dream to represent the Premiership champions.
But at 31, the window of opportunity for McClean to realise that ambition is narrowing.
The Republic of Ireland international, who cost the Championship club £5 million in 2018, turns 32 in April but somebody of his skillset would still have a lot to offer the Glasgow outfit.
Two goals and three assists in 23 Championship games this season illustrates that he’s struggling in the second tier at the moment and a spell in Scotland would appeal to him – and certainly if it’s with Celtic.
At this stage, a move to Parkhead isn’t going to happen without a connection of some sort – and maybe, just maybe, O’Neill could be that vessel if he does wind up replacing Lennon.
