The Celtic under-19 coach believes the important thing for the club is that their youngsters can see a path to the senior side.
Celtic’s academy coach Tommy McIntyre has been speaking to the club’s official website about some of the Bhoys youngsters that have been rewarded with first-team opportunities in recent times.
Celtic’s under-19 side are preparing for their UEFA Youth League qualifying match against HJK Helsinki on Wednesday evening and McIntyre has reflected on how important youth football is in their pursuit of a first-team chance at the club.
Celtic manager Ronny Deila has already proved he is not averse to giving young players a chance when they are deemed ready, and McIntyre name-checked three players who the Bhoys boss clearly rates.
“The most important thing is that the players can see a pathway through to the first-team,” McIntyre told celticfc.net.
“The most recent example is Aiden Nesbitt…but before him there was Joe Thompson…and Kieran Tierney who has also had first-team matches this season and last season.”
Celtic have a number of talented young players on their books and in time plenty of them should become regulars for Deila’s senior side.
It will mean Celtic are building a squad for the next decade and beyond and could lead to considerable success both domestically and – hopefully – in Europe.
