Celtic beat rivals Rangers, again.

Celtic have had the beating of Rangers’ first team this season, defeating their rivals on three separate occasions.

Last night it was Celtic’s development squad which did the honours, dispatching Rangers 1-0 through a goal from Calvin Miller.

Speaking to Celtic’s official website, coach Tommy McIntyre praised his young side, and felt that the margin of victory deserved to be greater.

Reflecting on the win he credited Celtic’s opponents, but said he felt his side were never really in any danger.

McIntyre said: “When we got the goal it was fully deserved and we controlled the game in the second half. We just needed that second goal and if we had got that then it could have been a bit easier for us. Rangers stuck in and fair dues to them. It was a tough match but you don’t expect anything different.

“You are always wondering if they get a wee half-chance, but in terms of chances created, we kept them to a minimum.”

McIntyre went on to praise Celtic goalkeeper Ross Doohan’s performance, explaining that he set the tone with the quality of his distribution helping maintain possession.

“Ross Doohan was excellent in terms of his use of the ball at the back and we built the play well and created most of the chances and we just needed that second one. These are good games to play in, the young players like to play them and it’s good for their progression.”

Doohan is a Scotland youth international and if he continues to earn rave reviews, he may one day be able to lay a claim to a Celtic goalkeeping spot which does not currently have a wholly convincing candidate.
