Celtic are closing in on the signing of Liverpool defender Nat Phillips as Brendan Rodgers nears a raid on his former club.
Leeds United target Nat Phillips is set to leave Liverpool on loan – but a move to Celtic now seems to be on the cards.
That is according to The Times, who claim that Celtic are ‘closing in’ on a move to sign Liverpool defender Phillips.
It’s suggested that Phillips is in line for a season-long loan move to Celtic with Brendan Rodgers desperate to land a centre back.
Cameron Carter-Vickers and new signing Maik Nawrocki are both out through injury, as is Stephen Welsh.
Celtic have landed another centre back in Gustaf Lagerbielke but Rodgers seemingly wants another option.
Rodgers and Phillips never actually crossed paths at Liverpool; the centre back only joined in 2016, months away Rodgers had been sacked.
The Northern Irishman has seemingly admired Phillips from afar and is now pushing to bring the Liverpool centre back to Glasgow.

Leeds United to miss out on Celtic target Nat Phillips
Celtic appear to be pushing for this deal ahead of the transfer deadline and links to Leeds United will seemingly come to an end.
Phillips has ben heavily linked with a move to join Leeds this summer.
The Athletic suggested in July that Leeds wanted to sign Phillips to bolster their back line after relegation.

Last Word on Sports even suggested that Phillips had agreed personal terms with Leeds over a move to Elland Road.
Leeds signed Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon earlier this month but The Athletic’s Phil Hay suggested that Phillips was still wanted.
The deadline is nearly here and Celtic are now swooping in with a move of their own, believing that Phillips can provide a major defensive presence.
Leeds seem to be placing more of a focus on midfield additions right now and it remains to be seen if they target somebody else if Phillips is off to Scotland.
