Celtic have lost to Real Madrid and Chris Sutton felt the Bhoys were ‘outclassed’ in the second half at Parkhead on Tuesday evening.

Ange Postecoglou’s men were in high spirits after beating Rangers 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Taking on last season’s Champions League winners Real Madrid was never going to be easy though, even if Celtic put up a great fight.

Celtic were outstanding in the first half and Real Madrid looked unnerved by their intensity.

Liel Abada had a couple of openings whilst Callum McGregor rattled the woodwork in a breathless first-half showing.

Real were much better after the break though and nullified Celtic’s threat, eventually taking full control of the game.

Vinicius Junior opened the scoring for Real Madrid, ghosting in to slot home from a Federico Valverde cross.

Luka Modric then showed his usual technical brilliance to grab a second with the outside of his right foot.

Eden Hazard added a third to put the seal on the victory for Real, leaving Celtic to open their Champions League group stage campaign with a defeat.

Celtic just couldn’t take their chances when they were on top and they were ultimately punished by world-class players.

Postecoglou will still be proud of his players though, especially for the interplay and aggression they showed in the first half.

Pundit and former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has now taken to Twitter to react to the result and performance, simply feeling that Celtic were ‘outclassed’ in the second half.

Sutton did though tell fans to realise the progress being made under Postecoglou from this time a year ago, with the Australian working wonders at Parkhead even with tonight’s defeat.

Elsewhere in Celtic’s group. Shakhtar Donetsk have hammered RB Leipzig 4-1 and the Bhoys face a tricky clash against Shakhtar next week, with a positive result needed.
