Celtic appear to be closing in on another new signing with Ange Postecoglou hinting that another arrival is ‘getting pretty close’.

The Bhoys have already confirmed two signings for the January window.

Japanese defender Yuki Kobayashi has joined from Vissel Kobe whilst CF Montreal right back Alistair Johnston has agreed to sign after a strong World Cup campaign.

Postecoglou loves to get his business done quickly and he isn’t stopping at just two signings for January.

Postecoglou has now told the Daily Record that Celtic are ‘getting pretty close’ to another signing and hope to have it wrapped up soon.

The Australian suggested that CEO Michael Nicholson and finance director Chris McKay would like some time off, so Celtic may try and push through a flea before they head off.

Postecoglou did add that Celtic are still investigating a couple of potential signings but the hope is that one deal will go through soon.

“We’re getting pretty close now,” said Postecoglou. “I know Michael and Chris want to spend some time with their families at Christmas. We’re working on things. There are still a couple that we are kind of investigating at the moment. We will see how things transpire over the next week or so. We’re not even into January yet so there is still a bit of time,” he added.

Who is Postecoglou’s mystery Celtic signing?

Celtic fans will be guessing between themselves over who exactly Postecoglou could be talking about.

The best guess right now may be Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors striker Cho Gue-sung.

The Scottish Sun reported in November that Celtic had joined the race to sign Cho.

Transfer insider Dean Jones also told Give Me Sport that Celtic were working on a potential deal for the South Korean striker.

The Bhoys may be in the market for a new striker given questions over the future of Giorgos Giakoumakis.

A physical striker to offer something different to Kyogo Furuhashi would be needed and Cho fits the bill.

Cho, 24, impressed for South Korea at the World Cup, scoring two superb headers against Ghana.

The 6ft 2in striker has scored 16 times in 45 games for Jeonbuk and has already completed his mandatory military duty in South Korea.

This would be another exploration into the Asian market for Celtic, but maybe Postecoglou has a big surprise up his sleeve yet.
