Chelsea are targeting Evan Ferguson months after the Brighton and Hove Albion striker admitted having a trial spell at Celtic.

Every club takes trialists on board, especially at youth and development levels.

Celtic have had their fair share over the years and Seamus Coleman will stick in the memory of many fans.

The now-Everton ace joined Celtic on trial from Sligo Rovers way back in 2009.

Celtic didn’t get a deal done though and Coleman went onto become an absolute mainstay for Everton.

That missed opportunity has been a real kicker for Celtic over the years and another similar situation may be emerging.

Chelsea want former Celtic trialist Evan Ferguson

Back in October, Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson admitted to Sussex Live that he had previously been on trial at Celtic.

Ferguson noted that he went on trial with Liverpool, Manchester United, Celtic, and Everton all took him on trial, as did Brighton.

The Seagulls ended up striking the deal, signing Ferguson from Bohemians.

That deal is already paying off for Brighton as Ferguson has bagged three goals in seven Premier League appearances.

The 18-year-old is making a big impact in the Premier League and Celtic may be left kicking themselves.

Reports from The Sun now suggest that Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in big moves for Ferguson this summer.

Graham Potter knows Ferguson from Brighton and the pair could reunite at the end of the season.

The Seagulls will be in a great position to demand major profit for Ferguson and that will only make Celtic missing out feel worse.

The Bhoys could have had a first-team contributor and a huge source of profit on their hands if they had signed Ferguson.

It just wasn’t to be and Celtic will now watch Ferguson develop in the Premier League before possibly making a big move.

Ferguson will now join Coleman as a player Celtic had in the building but just couldn’t sign before going on to shine.
