Celtic are facing a big summer; one of their biggest in recent memory.
The Bhoys need to find a manager and a director of football, whilst there will be a new chief executive arriving as Dominic McKay gears up to replace Peter Lawwell.
There could also be a mass exodus of players after a dismal season. Scott Brown is already off to Aberdeen, whilst Vasilis Barkas, Kristoffer Ajer, Ryan Christie Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard have all been linked away.
Add in that loanees Shane Duffy, Jonjoe Kenny, Diego Laxalt and Mohamed Elyounoussi are all unlikely to be back, and Celtic are facing an overhaul of epic proportions this summer.
The last thing Celtic need to be doing is selling a young player that should be built around, with the Daily Mail reporting that Tottenham Hotspur want to sign midfielder Ismaila Soro.
It’s quite the surprise rumour; Soro has only started 11 league games this season, and many Celtic fans feel that he should be given more playing time.
Tottenham seemingly feel that the Ivorian, signed for £2million from Bnei Yehuda in January 2020, is a diamond in the rough at Celtic, and this should be a warning sign to Celtic.
Now is not the time to be selling the 22-year-old. It’s bad enough that Celtic are losing their long-serving midfield anchor Brown without adding in the departure of Soro.
Soro needs to be the player Celtic promote as Brown’s long-term successor, handing the combative midfielder a key role next season and the chance to develop into a star at Parkhead.
Selling him now just doesn’t make sense. Celtic need Soro; replacing Brown is exactly why the Bhoys bought him, and the time has come for him to make that step up.
Maybe in the future, Soro can earn Celtic a big profit. For now, Celtic must stand firm, push Tottenham away and make sure that Soro has a major platform next season.
