The former Rangers striker understands why Forster is reluctant to return to Celtic on a season-long loan deal for the 2020-21 campaign.
Boyd has also used the examples of Kieran Tierney and Brendan Rodgers to remind the Hoops that playing in the Premier League and earning a lot of money is quite a big deal for players and managers.
Rodgers left his managerial role at Celtic to move to Leicester City in February 2019, while Scotland international left-back Tierney joined Arsenal from the Hoops last summer.
Earlier this month, Celtic manager Neil Lennon told Sky Sports that although the Hoops had struck a deal with Premier League club Southampton, Forster does not want another loan move back to the Bhoys.
The 32-year-old spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at the Glasgow giants and played an important role in their Scottish Premiership title success.
Boyd wrote in the Scottish Sun: “And let’s be honest, Celtic chief Peter Lawwell isn’t going to get close to matching the keeper’s wages. He is on north of £90,000 a week at Southampton with two years left on his deal. You don’t walk away from that unless it’s on your terms — no matter what the Celtic diehards say.
“I’ve heard all this nonsense about Scottish medals being more important than English money. Get real. There will be Celtic fans saying, ‘I can’t believe Forster doesn’t want to go for ten in a row’.
“Did they learn nothing at all from Brendan Rodgers quitting to join Leicester City during a season? Kieran Tierney has been a Celtic fan all his life, but even he couldn’t turn down Arsenal’s offer. It’s modern football and fans need to start accepting reality.”
Boyd added: “Yes, the Old Firm are massive clubs and can offer European football. But they can’t get close to the financial packages being handed out in England. The Forster situation epitomises this. Southampton can offer wages Celtic can only dream about.”
