Celtic have reportedly secured £9million for Brendan Rodgers and his staff.
Celtic lost manager Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City last month, in a move which sparked outrage from Bhoys fans as the Northern Irishman surprisingly quit for a return to the Premier League.
Intriguingly though, The Telegraph report that Celtic feel the move was ‘good business’, and that’s because they received a huge £9million fee for Rodgers and his staff.
That’s a major windfall for Celtic, especially ahead of the summer transfer window – and they can put that money towards signing one player Rodgers was keen to lure to Parkhead.
Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna became a top Celtic target last summer, with Rodgers admitting to BBC Sport that he wanted the Scot, but couldn’t go past the £3.5million offered.
McKenna remains at Pittodrie, with the 22-year-old impressing under Derek McInnes whilst becoming a regular Scotland international, with a huge future seemingly ahead of him.
With Dedryck Boyata set to leave for free and Filip Benkovic returning – ironically – to Leicester, Celtic need to replace two defenders without receiving any money for either of them.
Now though, with Rodgers moving on – and free agent Neil Lennon in the box seat to land the job permanently without any compensation being required – that £9million fee can potentially be put to new signings.
McKenna would be the ideal signing to solve Celtic’s issues in defence, whilst also having the last laugh over Rodgers, signing a player he wanted in a move funded by Leicester.
