The Norwegian says the striker is going nowhere this summer.
Celtic celebrated their Scottish Premiership title win with style today, winning 5-0 against cup conquerors Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Goals on the day came from Stefan Johansen, Leigh Griffiths and Kris Commons – the other two courtesy of a brace from striker Stefan Scepovic.
He got a rare start today and put in a great performance. Now his manager Ronny Deila has backed him to go on at Parkhead. He is quoted by Eurosport as stating:
“Stefan has struggled a little bit to get into the physical side of Scottish football but today he showed he is capable of doing it. I’m very happy for him.
“He knew what I expected from him – hard work and quick reactions.
“We know he can score goals but I think he worked really, really hard today and showed that he is capable of doing what we ask him to do.
“Everyone will get a chance next season. He is in our squad, so he is one of them.
“I have no plans to speak to his agent. I will speak to the player, not the agent – it’s much better.
“Of course he wants to stay here. He wants to succeed here. But everyone wants to play football, that’s the hardest part for me to manage.”
Scepovic has not had an easy first-season at Celtic. He joined the club in a protracted deal from Sporting Gijon in the summer. He cost them a fee reported to be £2.3 million by the BBC from the Spanish club, but has struggled to have an impact at Celtic.
The Serbian international has only started three games for Celtic in the SPL and his two goals today doubled his tally in the campaign this season.
Overall he has managed to notch six goals in 25 appearances for The Bhoys this season, some way off the 23 he managed in 43 appearances in 2013-14 in Spain’s second tier.
Now he will hope to push on and become a regular fixture under Deila from next season.
