Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers discusses Steven Gerrard, whom he managed at Liverpool, to Rangers rumours and Graeme Murty being “thrown to the garbage”.

Brendan Rodgers has spoken publicly about the rumours linking Steven Gerrard with the Rangers manager’s job and Graeme Murty being “thrown to the garbage”.
Rodgers, who celebrated winning successive Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic after beating rivals Gers 5-0 on Sunday (April 29), managed Gerrard for three years at Liverpool between 2012 and 2015.
The Scottish Sun has reported that the former Reds captain has been in talks with Ibrox club about taking charge from Murty – who was appointed as boss until the end of the season in December having been caretaker for two months following the sacking of Pedro Caixinha.

“Graeme Murty has been put in a position – he was under 20s coach last year and now he’s the first-team manager – and everyone was talking about him being a great guy and was doing very well,” Rodgers told Talksport.
“Now, after a couple of bad results he’s been thrown to the garbage and I think it’s very discourteous.”

On Gerrard, Rodgers added: “From Stevie’s perspective, I know he has always wanted to manage.
“I’m sure one day he will go on and manage Liverpool. But it’s all about timing for Stevie. If he feels this is the right opportunity I’m sure he’ll look at it, but I haven’t spoken to him about it.”
Rodgers could be facing the prospect of going up against someone he managed in the Old Firm derby next campaign should Gerrard be given the job.
The Northern Irishman is on course to win back-to-back domestic trebles at Parkhead after taking over in the summer of 2016.
The Hoops face Motherwell in the final of the Scottish Cup on May 19 and could win Rodgers his sixth trophy in less than two years at the helm.
