Armstrong has been on the books of Celtic since January 2015 when he joined from Dundee United.
The 25-year-old midfielder’s current contract with the Glasgow giants runs out in the summer of 2019, according to Transfermarkt.com.
Celtic boss Rodgers has revealed that he has spoken to the Scotland international about his future.
Rodgers told The Daily Record: “Players have short careers. Of course I’d love them to stay but there are numerous reasons – on both sides as there could be issues with the club too – that don’t allow them to sign.
“My job is to try to keep them and if they decide their future lies somewhere else, that’s fine.
“I have talked to Stuart briefly on it – I just want to help him become the best player he can be. He knows the opportunity he has here and I know he respects that.
“So I tend not to get bogged down too much with that. I have a strong relationship with him.”
No more summer distractions
As reported by The Daily Record, Celtic were in talks with Armstrong over a new deal in the summer of 2017.
The midfielder did eventually signed a one-year extension, but the form of the 25-year-old suffered.
Rodgers’s comments suggest that he is not going to let contract negotiations be a distraction again, and this should be a warning for Armstrong.
If the Scotsman wants to have a long and successful career, then he must be on top of his game consistently and play well for the rest of the season.
Armstrong has scored two goals and provided four assists in 21 Scottish Premiership appearances for Celtic so far this season, according to Transfermarkt.com.
According to The Sunday Post, Premier League club Southampton were considering making a £10 million bid for Armstrong in the January transfer window.
