Celtic are linked with a move for Ecuador gem Sergio Quintero.

Neil Lennon isn’t a man who minces his words and that was abundantly clear on Tuesday night when the Celtic boss was asked about one of his reported targets.

Sergio Quintero, who dazzled for Ecuador during the Under-20s World Cup this summer, has been linked with a move to Parkhead this summer.

The 20-year-old midfielder claimed to El Universo on Tuesday that Celtic were negotiating with his club, Imbabura, and that an agreement had to be struck this week.

Asked by BBC Sport Scotland whether a deal was close, Lennon bluntly responded: “Never heard of him.”

Managers are known for being a bit cagey in the transfer market and the likelyhood of Lennon genuinely never hearing of Quintero is slim.

Even if he’s not a target, the Celtic boss will know that the young midfielder – nicknamed ‘The Machine’ – has been linked with the Hoops.

With that in mind, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Quintero is on Lennon’s radar, but time will tell.
