Neil Lennon’s Celtic will not sign Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull this summer.

Turnbull was all set to join Celtic from Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell in the summer transfer window for £3.25 million before a medical showed that he needs “immediate preventative” knee surgery, as reported on BBC Sport.
The Scottish Sun has reported that the 19-year-old midfielder could be on the sidelines for six months.
Celtic manager Lennon has expressed his disappointment at not being able to bring in the teenager this summer, but he has suggested that the Scotland Under-21 international could make the switch to the Glasgow giants in the future.
Lennon told The Herald about Turnbull: “I’m disappointed for him, as, through no fault of his own, the deal has fallen through. Hopefully he makes a quick recovery and gets back to playing, but it won’t be with us.
“Could we revisit it? Absolutely. But the club did everything we could to make it happen.”

January move on?
Lennon’s aforementioned comments suggest that Celtic have not given up on signing Turnbull, and it would not be a bad idea for the Hoops to look at him again in January 2020 or next summer.
After all, Turnbull is one of the best and most promising young midfielders in Scotland, and he would be an asset at Celtic.
