Celtic boss Neil Lennon has been outlining the differences between Celtic and Rangers.
The Hoops’ faithful celebrated a ninth Premiership title in a row on Saturday afternoon after being crowned champions earlier in the week.
Celtic were 13 points clear of Rangers – who had a game in hand – when the season was suspended back in March.
As a result, Steven Gerrard, whose Gers side also lost the Scottish League Cup final to Lennon in December and were dumped out of the Scottish Cup by Hearts, hasn’t won a trophy in either of his two years in charge at Ibrox.
And Lennon does not believe that he would last two years at Parkhead without winning a single trophy in the same time period, illustrating the difference in expectation levels between the Old Firm clubs.
He told BT Sport when asked if he’d survive back-to-back trophy-less years on the green half of Glasgow: “Probably not, such is the nature in Glasgow and the level of expectation.
“There’s been a steady improvement in Rangers. They were strong in the first half of the season. Then in the second half, we responded even better to a point where teams around us couldn’t keep up with us and that’s something I don’t take lightly.
“It takes a certain mentality to do that, to keep winning when everyone expects you to win.”
Lennon is right in saying that a winner’s mentality also separates Celtic and Rangers.
Gerrard’s side had dropped 13 points in six weeks of league football during the second half of the campaign, even after beating the Bhoys at Parkhead before the winter break.
But their inexplicable form since then has exposed a softness in comparison to Celtic and unless Gerrard fixes it during the summer, Lennon will lead his troops to 10-in-a-row a year from now.
