Celtic’s displays in domestic and continental competition have been like chalk and cheese.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers celebrates
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has discussed his January transfer plans, and his hopes of recruiting players who possess specific attributes, as quoted by the Express.
The Hoops have been dominant in domestic competition so far this season, and comfortably sit top of the Scottish Premiership table, with a healthy four point advantage over second placed Aberdeen.
It has once again been European competition that has proven to be troublesome for the Glasgow giants, however, with a return of just one point from their opening three Champions League games leaving them rock bottom of their group.

Rodgers highlighted how he is now looking to identify players for the January transfer window who possess three key attributes, in a bid to become more competitive in the Champions League, as quoted by the Express:
“To compete at Champions League level you need those qualities of power, speed and high levels of technique.”
The struggle for Celtic historically has been in attracting players of a sufficient calibre to the club in order to help improve their fortunes on the continental stage.

The signing of Moussa Dembele this summer seemed to be a big statement, however, and represented a huge advancement in Celtic’s perceived pulling power.
The next two or three transfer windows will be vitally important for Rodgers, and he must bring in the right players if his side are to improve in Europe.
