Celtic boss explains how he uses psychology to motivate his players

Celtic look like they could once again dominate the Scottish Premiership this term.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers explained his methods when attempting to motivate his players, as quoted by the Daily Record.

The Hoops have been in fine form so far this season, winning six of their opening seven league outings, and currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership table, four points clear of second placed Aberdeen.

Rodgers spoke to the media ahead of his side’s game against Motherwell tomorrow, and divulged the unique methods he uses to try and get the best put of his squad, and in particular, a technique known as NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), as quoted by the Daily Record:

“I always say, ‘It’s your responsibility…the crown is on your head.’ You are the king of your own destiny. Wherever you go is down to you. I say to the players, ‘If you want a problem, there is one just round the corner.’ The world is full of them. Try to find a solution and be the best you can be. The psychology part is massive.”

The former Liverpool boss went on to describe how the mental aspect of the game is something that he tends to focus on quite a lot:

“I have found that part of the game fascinating in terms of getting the best out of people. A lot of work goes into the technical, the tactical and obviously the physical. But the mental aspect is about managing the pressure and stress and being consistent, that is the key. I tend to focus on that quite a lot.”

Despite their wonderful league form, the Glasgow giants have their work cut out if they are to qualify for the knock-out stages of the Champions League.

They gave themselves a fighting chance, however, with their impressive draw with Premier League leaders Manchester City, and Rodgers’ men will need to be at their strongest, both physically and mentally if they are to make progress on the European stage.
