Celtic are potentially one injury to Odsonne Edouard away from disaster.
Neil Lennon has suggested that he could use Ryan Christie as a striker for Celtic, if Odsonne Edouard ever found himself sidelined with injury.
The Hoops have been reliant on the in-form French marksman this season in light of missing Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Issouf Bayo being unproven.
Griffiths, one of Celtic’s best players when fit, is currently out with a virus after previously missing a couple of months with a thigh problem, while Lennon confirmed that Bayo is now also in the treatment room.
When speaking about potential replacements for Edouard in the event of injury, the Bhoys manager mentioned the name of Christie, an attacking midfielder.
He told The Scottish Sun: “You don’t want to lose Odsonne for any games because he is so pivotal to the way we play. We’d have to manage it if that eventuality comes around. If it is the case, hopefully Bayo, Griffiths and a couple of others could slot in there.
“Mikey can do it, Ryan Christie can do it. There’s a flexibility about them.”
Hopefully for Celtic they won’t find themselves in a position where Edouard, Griffiths and Bayo are all sidelined at the same time.
It would be an unprecedented crisis, especially with Rangers, who sit behind the Parkhead side on goal difference, boasting such formidable strikers in the form of Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos.
But Christie – signed by Ronny Deila in 2015 – certainly is a very talented and very versatile attacker, one who Michael Stewart suggested as a centre-forward option for Scotland earlier this month.
Could it work? Hopefully for Celtic, they don’t have to find out.
