Speaking to The Scottish Sun, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is in ‘no doubt’ that Oliver Burke needs to improve on his numbers during his time at Parkhead.

Rodgers signed the West Brom winger on a half-season loan earlier this month.

The 21-year-old joins Celtic with ‘huge potential’ after commanding £28 million in transfer fees already – £13 million from Nottingham Forest to RB Leipzig, and then £15 million to West Brom.

But the Scotland international has only managed eight goals and eight assists during his senior career, and the Hoops boss claims that he must improve on his ‘efficiency’ during his stint in Glasgow.

“He is a bright boy and he’s got good technique, though he needs to work on his efficiency, there’s no doubt of that,” he told The Scottish Sun. “I think he’s got 74 games in total and eight goals. What you have got there is a player with huge potential.

“My experience of working with young talent and some of the best players in the world is that they can still learn. If he can respond, we’ve got a fantastic player.

“You want hungry players and if a player’s hungry at 31, 32, 21, 22, 18 or 19, then that’s what you want.”

He clearly has bags of talent and hopefully the Celtic boss, being the very gifted man-manager that he is, can get the very best out of him.

Burke made his debut in Saturday’s 3-0 Scottish Cup win over Airdrie, and he looked a bit rusty it has to be said. Then again, he has only had a little over 30 minutes of senior football since October, so ring rust is inevitable.
