Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic will face Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Premiership today.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has suggested to The Daily Record that Craig Gordon may not feature against Hamilton Academical away from home in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

Gordon has recovered from a long-term injury and played for Celtic against Dundee at Celtic Park in the league on Wednesday evening.

Many will expect the 35-year-old goalkeeper to retain his place in the Hoops’ starting lineup for the match against Hamilton, especially with the game against Old Firm rivals Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-finals coming up next weekend, but Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has suggested that Bain could play instead.

The former Liverpool and Swansea City manager has suggested that he does not want Gordon to get any further injuries from playing on Hamilton’s artificial pitch at New Douglas Park.

Rodgers told The Daily Record: “It’s something we’ll look at in terms of Craig coming back from injury on that pitch. Does he play on the astro?

“We have a number of players we have to think about in that regard, like Jozo Simunovic, Leigh Griffiths and Kieran Tierney as well.

“It’s not the ideal game to have before a semi-final. So we’ll have to weigh it up for Hamilton.”

Smart idea

Celtic should win the match against Hamilton with ease, and even if they do not, then that is not going to affect their chances of clinching the Scottish Premiership title this season.

What is important for the Hoops is to keep everyone fit for next weekend’s match against Rangers, and if that means leaving Gordon out of the starting lineup for his own good, then so be it.
