Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths scored twice against Joe Hart in a recent match between Scotland and England.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told the Herald Scotland that Joe Hart was raving about Leigh Griffiths’ free-kicks, when they met on holiday.

Hart was in goal for England against Scotland, when Griffiths struck two brilliant set-pieces against him.

Scotland ended up drawing 2-2 with England, and Celtic forward Griffiths’ free-kicks obviously left a lasting impression on the Manchester City stopper.

Rodgers said: “I bumped into Joe Hart when I was away on holiday and he commented on the level of free-kick and Joe has faced many top class players. But to do it in a game of that magnitude… you know, the first one is Leigh all day, he has great swerve, great bend. “

Griffiths’ goals for Scotland were his first on the international stage and capped off the 26-year-old Celtic striker’s season.

Griffiths scored 12 goals in 24 matches for the Bhoys in the Scottish Premiership, but he did lose his place as a permanent starter.

The arrival of Moussa Dembele at Celtic, has knocked Griffiths down the pecking order with the Glasgow club, and he now faces a fight to win back his place next term.

Griffiths has actually been linked with a move away from Celtic this summer, but he is expected to remain part of Rodgers’ plans for next season.

Celtic kick off their campaign next month, when they enter Champions League qualification.
