Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says no signings are imminent

Celtic have signed two players this month, but no more arrivals are close according to Brendan Rodgers.

Brendan Rodgers has told Celtic’s official website that he isn’t close to making any new signings.

The Northern Irishman has signed only Marvin Compper and Lewis Morgan this month, though the latter, who joined for £300,000, will stay at St Mirren on loan until June.

A number of players, including Moussa Dembele, Leigh Griffiths and Jozo Simunovic, have been linked with moves away from Parkhead this month.

Celtic have also been rocked by a multitude of injuries this week, with Compper and Stuart Armstrong ruled out for a month, while Rodgers revealed that Tom Rogic could be out for a further two months in another bit of rotten news for the Hoops.

They also have Patrick Roberts sidelined with a hamstring problem and Jonny Hayes won’t play again this season, so there is a sense that Celtic, who resume their Europa League campaign with a last-32 tie with Zenit next month, really need new faces this month.

But the former Swansea City and Liverpool boss admits that he is hoping to get more players in – eventually.

“Not that I’m aware of as of yet, but there is obviously work going on with the club behind the scenes,” he told Celtic’s website when asked if any deals were close.

“It’s just about getting the right type of quality that can improve us – that’s what’s important and that’s never easy.

“A lot of work has to go in before you do that. We are hoping between now and the end of the month we can do that, and that injection of quality into the team will then serve us well hopefully for the rest of the season.”
