Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says that he will not sign a new defender in the summer transfer window.
Kolo Toure is no more at the club in a playing capacity, while Dedryck Boyata is injured at the moment.
Erik Sviatchenko picked up a knee injury during the Champions League tie against Rosenborg in Norway earlier this week.
Injuries have left Celtic short in central defence, with Nir Bitton filling in at centre-back against Rosenborg.
Manager Rodgers, though, has made it clear that he will not sign a new central defender in the summer transfer window. The former Liverpool and Swansea City boss has also explained his decision.

“We won’t be getting someone in,” Rodgers told The Scottish Sun. “We have Nir Bitton who can play there.
“It depends, if we are talking about Scottish football and the ball getting smashed up the pitch, you can have two big guys who can head it.
“But we are not playing that way. We can cope. We have Krisfoffer Ajer who’s 6ft 5ins, but he can play.
“We’ll have Boyata back in September, and Mikael Lustig can play there too. We don’t need to worry about centre-half.”

Rodgers does make some valid points, and one can understand that Celtic manager’s stance regarding signing a new central defender.
The problem that Celtic have at centre-back is short-term, and signing a defender in the summer transfer window could create problems later on in terms of keeping everyone happy.
However, the Bhoys would be taking a risk with their chances of progressing to the Champions League group stage as well as making a strong start to the Scottish Premiership campaign if they do not sign a centre-back soon.
