Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted in the Daily Record that Mark Warburton did not waste his time at Glasgow Rangers.

Warburton parted company with Rangers last weekend, after the pressure began to build at Ibrox.

Rangers have struggled to compete with Celtic back in their first season back in the top flight, and currently sit in third place in the Scottish Premiership table.

Rangers have fallen 27 points behind their Glasgow rivals, but Rodgers insists that Warburton did a good job with the Light Blues.

“He did a good job there. Some will say at the end it was wasted time, but I don’t necessarily agree with that because seven or eight months ago people were talking about the great things he was doing,” the Celtic boss said.

“In modern football with social media, there are a lot of short memories.

“But this is the narrative of the modern manager. He will go away and I’m sure he will get a very good job and will do it well.”

Warburton’s replacement at Rangers has still not been decided, with Graeme Murty currently in caretaker charge.

The Ibrox side have been linked with both Alex McLeish and Frank de Boer in recent times.

Rangers are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Dundee.

Celtic, meanwhile, will be hoping to protect their unbeaten domestic record, by getting past Motherwell.
