Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told The Scottish Sun that Dedryck Boyata could be back for their matches against Aberdeen and Steven Gerrard’s Rangers later this month.

The Hoops will take on Aberdeen away from home in the Scottish Premiership on Boxing Day.

Celtic will then face Old Firm rivals Rangers at Ibrox on December 29 in the league.

Boyata is back in training after missing Celtic’s past four games due to a hamstring injury, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

Celtic manager Rodgers has said that the 28-year-old Belgium international could be available for the games against Aberdeen and Rangers.

Rodgers told the Scottish Sun: “Dedryck has a good chance for the Aberdeen and Rangers games — absolutely.

“Thankfully, his injury was only a slight, grade-one hamstring. He’s moving well outside, so we will see where he is at.”

Hugely encouraging for Celtic

Boyata is arguably the best central defender in the current Celtic squad, and his return to the team will be a massive boost to the Glasgow giants’ chances of winning against Aberdeen and Rangers.

Rodgers needs his best players against Rangers at Ibrox in order to pick up all three points from the Old Firm derby.

Rangers are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment, while Celtic are currently third in the standings.
