The £6 million-rated midfielder is set to sign a new deal at Celtic, according to the Northern Irishman.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told BBC Scotland that Stuart Armstrong will sign a new contract at the club this week.
The 25-year-old’s future at Celtic has been something of a concern this summer.
With his contract set to expire next summer, the Bhoys have been vulnerable to losing him for a cut-price fee and The Irish Sun reported this week that Premier League side Swansea were readying a £6 million move for the Scot.
However, Rodgers has told BBC Scotland that Armstrong’s extension is ‘imminent’ and expects a deal to be announced within 48 hours.
He said: “Stuart, hopefully imminently, he will agree an extension to his deal. Hopefully that will be announced in the next 24, 48 hours, which will be brilliant for us.
“I have a huge admiration for him, this is the place for him to develop and he’s a vital member of our squad.”
Rodgers was speaking after Celtic’s 5-0 demolition of Astana in the first leg of their Champions League playoff.
The only sour note on an otherwise hugely positive night was a head injury to Tom Rogic, but the former Liverpool boss confirms that the Australian midfield is okay when asked if he’d be fit for Saturday’s trip to Kilmarnock.
He added: “Tom is fine. He was smiling at the end.”
With Celtic effectively in the group stages of the competition, the Bhoys can expect a windfall of around £30 million which further widens the gap between themselves and other sides in the Scottish Premiership.
