Celtic demolished Astana 5-0 in the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.

Celtic are one step closer to securing Champions League group stage berth after beating Astana 5-0 in the first leg qualifier at Celtic Park.

After a stalemate of 30 minute, Celtic broke the deadlock. Tom Rogic made a brilliant run into the box and lifted a ball into the area and Evgeni Postnikov could only divert it to his own net.

Trevor Sinclair scored twice before and after the break to give the Hoops a 3-0 lead. James Forrest added a fourth, and Leigh Griffiths’ shot was deflected in off Igor Shitov for the fifth goal.

After the match, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard showered praise on the Celtic boss, saying he is a fantastic man manager, who makes you feel confident all the time.

While commentating the match for BT, Gerrard asked Rodgers whether he would relish a return to Anfield.

Liverpool also won their first leg qualifier match 2-1 against Hoffenheim, and are favourites to progress through to the group stages.

So, the possibility of meeting Celtic at some point during the tournament cannot be ruled out.

Rodgers gave a witty reply saying, “They must be paying you to say that!”

“I hope sometime in the future I would go back to Anfield. We had an incredible time together. It’s a phenomenal club,” he added.
