Glasgow Rangers manager Graeme Murty gets praise from Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers for his work at Ibrox.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has spoken highly of Rangers boss Graeme Murty to The Glasgow Evening Times.

Rodgers believes that Murty has done a good job at Rangers, and has defended the Ibrox manager.

The former Liverpool and Swansea City boss made the comments ahead of the Scottish Cup semi-final tie between Celtic and Rangers at Hampden Park on Sunday afternoon.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on January 24, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rodgers told The Glasgow Evening Times about Murty: “I think he has done a very good job. I suspect if you go back and read the headlines and the columnists in the lead-up to the game at Ibrox they were talking about what a great job he was doing and that the team were in a great moment, in great confidence.

“He loses a game against us and then the world changes. But that is not football. It is about building, it is about creating and just step by step.”

“I think he has done very well,” added Rodgers about Murty. “He has brought them together, brought in some good players and got them all fighting. You can’t win every game but he has done a good job.”

High praise

There have been some results in recent weeks which were unexpected for Rangers, but there is no doubt that Murty has done a very good job at Ibrox.

Murty has instilled belief in the players, made some shrewd signings, and has galvanised the team.

One should not forget that this is the 43-year-old’s first managerial job, and he has stepped up and can be proud of himself.

If Rangers finish second in the Scottish Premiership and win the Scottish Cup this season, then there is no doubt that Murty should be given the managerial role at the Gers for the 2018-19 campaign.
