Celtic survived a scare to beat Partick Thistle 2-1 on Tuesday.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he felt Odsonne Edouard was “excellent” during Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Partick Thistle at Firhill.
Leigh Griffiths came off the bench to rescue Celtic with a 70th-minute winner, after Scott Sinclair’s penalty 15 minutes earlier cancelled out Conor Sammon’s first-half opener from the spot.
It was by no means a vintage performance from Rodgers’s side, but it was enough to see the Hoops move 11 points clear of second-placed Aberdeen until tonight at least, with the Dons visiting Rangers.
The Northern Irishman raised eyebrows with his decision to start Paris Saint-Germain loanee Edouard over Griffiths and Moussa Dembele in the Bhoys’ attack, and the 19-year-old Frenchman incurred the wrath of Celtic fans and indeed Chris Sutton afterwards for a perceived inept performance.
“I thought young Odsonne was excellent,” he told The Glasgow Evening Times briefly.
It was Mikael Lustig who conceded the penalty on 34 minutes after botching a clearance and then tugging back Miles Storey in the box, and the Celtic boss admits that the Swede made a mistake.
“We made a couple of mistakes in the first half in our build-up play, I thought we were deserving of a goal but it didn’t come. And then we made a mistake for the penalty, it was a clear penalty.”
