Celtic boss laments the team’s defending once again.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers looked glum after the team’s defeat to Salzburg last night.
He admitted Celtic were beaten by the better team, reflecting on the 3-1 win.
Once again Rodgers was lamenting the Celtic team’s defence.
He told SkySports: “So the first half I was reasonably pleased with, the second half we gave away disappointing goals, that was the frustration for us.”
Rodgers’ frustration is understandable. The defence has been letting Celtic down all season.
Poor defending cost Celtic in the Champions League qualifiers, it has blighted their domestic campaign, and even going back to last season it halted their progress in Europe too.

Rodgers has had numerous transfer windows to try and fix the issue. So far he has failed.
Signings Marvin Compper and Jack Hendry have been disastrous, a loan for Filip Benkovic (currently injured) is just a sticking plaster solution when surgery is required.
Rodgers is in his third season at Celtic. There should be progress.
If anything their defence has gone backwards, and face losing Dedryck Boyata on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Rodgers shouldn’t be here bemoaning poor quality defending from his Celtic side.
He has had time to fix this. It’s not all on Rodgers, it’s the board too. But nobody at Celtic can be satisfied with the situation as it stands.
