Celtic could only draw with Motherwell last night, but Jonny Hayes was handed a rare start for Brendan Rodgers’ men.

Brendan Rodgers has praised Celtic’s Jonny Hayes’ performance on the club’s official website.
Hayes was handed a rare start for Celtic against Motherwell last night, and he was one of their better performers on the evening.
The Bhoys could only pick up a 1-1 draw at Fir Park, after conceding a late equaliser.
And while many Celtic players did not perform up to expectations, Hayes earned credit from his manager.
“Jonny Hayes did great,” Rodgers said.
“He hasn’t played for a little bit of time but his thrust, his energy and his pressing was good. He showed moments of quality, having not played for a while. But for us, and the level we’ve been at, it wasn’t so good.”

Hayes has not featured for Celtic since early November, and he has made just three appearances all season.
The Republic of Ireland international has generally been overlooked, but he has done his chances of starting in the future no harm with his showing last night.
Celtic had taken the lead against Motherwell when Ryan Christie found the back of the net, but Danny Johnson struck a late equaliser.
Celtic’s failure to win saw them slip down to third in the Scottish Premiership table, but they do have games in hand over the two teams ahead of them.
