Scott Brown is in contention to return for Celtic on Thursday.
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed to BBC Sport that Scott Brown could return for Celtic’s trip to Rosenborg on Thursday.
Victory away to the Norwegian side would lift Celtic up to second in their Europa League group with one game left, if RB Leipzig drop points away to leaders Salzburg.
It’s a massive game for the Hoops, but they may have their captain available for the visit.
The 33-year-old midfielder, who joined in 2007 for £4.4 million [The Guardian] has missed over a month of action through injury, but Rodgers told BBC Sport that he is training well and is in contention to face Rosenborg.
Speaking after Celtic’s 3-0 win at Hamilton, the Northern Irishman said: “We think so. He’s been training really well, so we’ll see how he is over the next few days.
“If we have a chance to qualify [in the Europa League] then, of course, it’s a game we would want to win.”
If Brown is fit, it leaves Rodgers with a very tricky decision. Does he drop Ryan Christie – who opened the scoring today – or Callum McGregor, with the Scot perhaps being the Bhoys’ best player this season.
One of them must drop out of their usual position if Brown is to return to the first XI, which he may not.
Given he has been out for four weeks, Rodgers could simply start him on the bench and continue with the axis of Christie and McGregor in midfield.
