There were reports that Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic had rejected a new contract at Parkhead.

In comments reported by The Scottish Sun, Brendan Rodgers looked to play down reports that Tom Rogic had rejected a new contract with Celtic.

Australian outlet The World Game suggested this week that Rogic – whose current deal at Parkhead expires at the end of next season – had been unimpressed with an offer made by the Hoops and had turned it down.

There was the slightest hint that there was absolutely no rift between the player and the club as he started Sunday’s Scottish Premiership clash with Aberdeen. And after the game, Rodgers has insisted that there is nothing to the rumours that Rogic has rejected the deal.

“It was the first I heard of it. It will always be between the club and the players’ representatives but he’s got a year and a half left here,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

It would perhaps not be the greatest surprise there was some contrasting opinions amongst the Celtic fanbase regarding Rogic’s future if he had rejected a new deal with the club.

On his day, the 25-year-old is a brilliant player who can make a devastating impact for the Hoops. However, he has struggled for consistency this term and has never really been able to hold down a regular place in the Bhoys side.

And given those problems, if it turns out that Rogic has indeed rejected a new contract, it would not be a surprise if a number of supporters were urging the club to consider selling the attacking midfielder in the summer while they can still get a decent price for him.
