Celtic’s record signing Odsonne Edouard is struggling for goals at the moment.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told The Daily Mail he is confident that Odsonne Edouard will have a very memorable season with the club.

The Scottish Premiership champions spent a club-record £9 million on bringing Edouard to Parkhead from Paris Saint-Germain, after having him on loan last term.

The 20-year-old has scored four goals across all competitions since becoming a permanent Celtic player, but hasn’t found the net in any of his last five games.

But having scored four in his first five outings for the Bhoys this season, Rodgers is convinced that his hefty investment is well equipped to repay his transfer fee in the only currency that matters for a striker – goals.

“Odsonne is working hard but confidence is a big thing. The only way you have that confidence and success is through hard work. So, the players are working hard,” he told The Daily Mail.

“And as the season goes on, we’ll get better and he’ll get better. He’s more than just good. He’s top-class. He can do everything.”

Edouard might be able to do everything according to Rodgers, but he might have to displace Leigh Griffiths first.

The Scottish hitman was the hero for Celtic on Thursday night as Griffiths’s 87th-minute strike helped the Hoops to a 1-0 win over Rosenborg in their Europa League opener.

Griffiths replaced goal-shy Edouard 10 minutes earlier and it’ll be interesting to see if the Northern Irish manager rewards his heroics with a starting spot.
