Celtic want Ben Davies and the defender has now been axed from Liverpool’s pre-season trip to Thailand ahead of a potential transfer.

The Bhoys have already secured a permanent deal for a centre back this summer by signing Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham.

Carter-Vickers should continue his partnership with Carl Starfelt moving forward but Celtic may still need to find another central defender.

Ko Itakura and Taylor Harwood-Bellis were linked but they ave ended up joining Borussia Monchengladbach and Burnley respectively.

A left-sided defender would be ideal, especially as Liam Scales’ move to Aberdeen, and a familiar name has been linked.

Celtic want Ben Davies

Reports from the Liverpool Echo last month suggested that Celtic had made contact with Liverpool over a deal for Ben Davies.

Bhoys fans may remember that Celtic were interested in signing Davies in January 2021 and looked set to secure a pre-contract agreement.

Yet Davies, who was inside the final six months of his Preston deal, instead decided to make a shock move to Liverpool.

Davies has never played a first-team game for Liverpool though and spent last season on loan at Championship side Sheffield United.

It was suggested that Celtic were vying with Middlesbrough over a £4million deal but those rumours haven’t advanced.

Celtic may well be keeping tabs on Davies and his situation at Liverpool, with an exit now looking very likely.

Sky Sports report that Davies has now been left out of Liverpool’s pre-season trip to Thailand.

There is interest in Davies and Liverpool want to try and thrash out a deal for the defender rather than take him over to Asia.

Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City are also understood to be keen though, meaning Celtic would face a battle for Davies.

This is a step that clearly pushes Davies towards the Liverpool exit door and if Celtic don’t sign him this time, you would have to feel that it’s never going to happen.
