The Hoops full-back is being linked with a move away from Parkhead.
Celtic ex-player and Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas has welcomed the prospect of Kieran Tierney switching from the Hoops to the Gunners but claimed that the full-back has “a lot to learn defensively” (Sky Sports News).
According to The Guardian, Arsenal have already had a £15million bid for Tierney turned down this summer, but they hope a second offer of around £18million will be enough, despite the fact he is valued at £25million at Parkhead.
Celtic are believed to be open to offers for Tierney – who has also been linked with Napoli and Leicester City – but with his contract at Paradise running until the summer of 2023, they are under no pressure to sell, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
Nicholas praised the 22-year-old in terms of the potential of being suitable for Unai Emery’s side but was also cautious in his optimism, telling the Sky Sports Transfer Talk Podcast: “He’s got real power, real pace going forward. He’s turned into a very exciting full-back over the years and he’s vastly improved.
“There is a question mark about his defensive frailties but then again he would be an improvement for Arsenal, there’s no doubt in my mind about that. Kieran Tierney is a fabulous footballer, but he’s got a lot to learn defensively.”
Arsenal have been left reeling by another season in which they failed to qualify for the Champions League, having to settle for the Europa League, while their great run to the final last time out ended in a comprehensive defeat to London rivals Chelsea.
