Celtic have announced the signing of Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo, confirming the deal via the club’s official website.

Bolingoli-Mbombo has been touted as a replacement for left-back Kieran Tierney, linked with Arsenal.

However Celtic are giving little away.

In the club’s announcement, Celtic were keen to stress they view Bolingoli-Mbombo as more than a left-back.

The club website reads that the Belgian, ‘can play in a variety of left-sided roles’.

This shows Celtic would have a plan for Bolingoli-Mbombo in the case that Tierney stays.

Arsenal supporters may be getting a bit carried away that this move means Tierney is off, but Celtic have deliberately chosen to sign a left-back who can play alongside the Scotland international.

BBC Sport and the Daily Record both describe Bolingoli-Mbombo as a left-back.

Celtic’s omission of this in their announcement makes clear their intention to keep everybody guessing over Tierney’s future, especially Arsenal.

Kieran Tierney of Celtic is seen during the Scottish Premier League between Celtic and Kilmarnock at Celtic Park on May 9, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.
