Celtic have struck a deal to keep James Forrest at Parkhead.
Celtic have this afternoon confirmed that James Forrest has signed a new deal with the club, extending his stay with the club until 2023.
Forrest, 28, has come up through the ranks at Celtic having joined the club way back in 2002, though he was nearly let go by Ronny Deila in 2016.
Brendan Rodgers decided to keep him, and the Scot has become a key player for Celtic now, notching 44 goals since the start of the 2017-18 season.
Forrest was sensational last season with 18 goals and 20 assists, and Celtic have now moved to ensure that Forrest stays put at Parkhead by handing him a new four-year deal.
Forrest will now be with the club until 2023 as things stand, and that gives Celtic a massive boost ahead of tonight’s game against St Mirren.
The news should also end any chance of Rodgers taking Forrest to Leicester City, with The Times claiming back in February that Rodgers was interested after leaving Celtic.
With the new deal, Celtic will be able to demand a higher price for Forrest, and at 28, it’s hard to see Leicester now paying what the Bhoys would want for him.
Celtic can seemingly rest easy now, and look forward to four more years of Forrest, whose Celtic career has come on leaps and bounds in the last four years.
