Celtic are currently working on signing two midfield players for the January transfer window with Ange Postecoglou seeking additions.

That’s according to the Scottish Daily Mail (19/11, p87), as they claim that Celtic are pressing ahead with January transfers plans.

Neither potential signing is named in the report, but Postecoglou seemingly wants to bolster his engine room.

That’s despite the summer signing of James McCarthy, who hasn’t quite hit top form in green and white hoops.

So who could be arriving at Celtic?

The first shout is Kawasaki Frontale star Reo Hatate, with Postecoglou again looking to the Japanese market.

Football Scotland reported earlier this month that Celtic have opened talks to sign Hatate, who is out of contract in just a matter of weeks.

Capable of playing at left back or in midfield, Hatate can bring real versatility to the Celtic side in a bargain deal.

Another name in the mix is Aaron Mooy, who played under Postecoglou with the Australian national team.

The Daily Mail claimed last week that Mooy is Postecoglou’s number one target in January despite his £60,000-a-week wages at Shanghai SIPG.

Mooy would have to take a major pay cut to join Celtic, but with his wife being from Scotland, a move could be appealing.

If Celtic can secure those two players, Postecoglou’s midfield would be instantly boosted as the Bhoys sense a chance to challenge Rangers.
