Tottenham and Celtic are set to miss out on the signing of English talent Deji Sotona, with Brentford agreeing on a fee with OGC Nice for the winger.

According to the Telegraph, the former Manchester United academy attacker is set to join the Bees on loan with an option to buy in the summer. The same publication reported in December that Spurs and Celtic were chasing the 19-year-old.

However, it appears that Brentford have won the race for the attacker, with the west London side earlier today announcing the signing of Christian Eriksen one of the most surprising transfers of the window so far.

And now, Sotona will also join Brentford’s ranks, with the teenager likely to join the club’s B team set-up, which has proven to be a success at developing young players and guiding them to opportunities in the senior game.

Sotona left United in 2020 for France. However, the forward is keen to return to the United Kingdom after struggling to break into Nice’s first team, with Tottenham and Celtic two clubs eager to sign the youngster.

The news will come as a blow to both clubs, with Sotona a player noted for his incredible pace during his years with United.

Brentford signing Sotona should sit poorly with Celtic and Tottenham

Sotona is a player who could develop into a serious talent at a well-run club, like Brentford. And for Celtic and Tottenham, missing out on the attacker to the Premier League side should sit poorly with them.

After all, Spurs and the Hoops are two of the biggest clubs in Britain, and losing out on a talent like Sotona to Brentford shows that young players are becoming more conscious of the clubs they commit their future to.
