Sol Campbell says Tottenham Hotspur should target Celtic and Real Madrid stars.

England substitute Sol Campbell Sol Campbell has been weighing in on who Tottenham should sign

Tottenham Hotspur face a huge campaign in 2017/18 as they look to kick on after an impressive season.

One priority will be doing better in the Champions League – getting out the group stage would qualify as a success after this past season.

Controversial former player Sol Campbell has urged them to spend money on players of high quality this summer in order to compete better at the higher level, and recommends Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos as a player they should target, along with Celtic ace Moussa Dembele.

Speaking to Bet Stars, Campbell said: “Toni Kroos at Real Madrid is a wonderful player. He has passing ability and defensive ability as well, but he can also find that splitting pass going forward.

“I think that type of player can make a huge difference for Tottenham, especially at Champions League level, when you need that experienced player who can make the difference.”

He also feels Dembele would be a perfect fit for Spurs – indeed he almost became a Tottenham player in 2016 before the club backed out of a deal, and he later joined Celtic.

Campbell added: “Moussa Dembele at Celtic is an exciting forward. He can play anywhere. He breaks the line, he’s very good at going forward and dragging defenders into areas where they don’t want to go. He’s got a good nous in front of goal as well, so I think he could definitely make a difference to Tottenham as they compete in four competitions next season.”

What are the chances?

Bet Stars rate Tottenham’s chances of signing Kroos at 8/1, which seems generous.

Kroos is a key player for Real Madrid and has been ever since signing from Bayern Munich in 2014. He is bidding to win his third Champions League trophy next week.

He would be highly expensive and Spurs have a similar type of player in midfield already in Mousa Dembele, and he could hamper Harry Winks’ development.

Kroos would be a majestic addition for Tottenham but we don’t see it as probable.

Bet Stars have Dembele at just 2/1 to sign for Spurs from Celtic and this could be a go-er, but it would need chairman Daniel Levy to accept he made a costly mistake in not signing the Frenchman earlier, which he may not be willing to concede.

Celtic are going to find it tough to hang onto him, and if Spurs do not move, they risk seeing him join a top Premier League rival instead.
