A select round-up of the latest news involving Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers side and Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops.
A report in the Telegraph has claimed that Celtic have seen a third bid of £2.75m for Aston Villa winger Scott Sinclair rejected by the Championship club.
The Daily Mail reports that Brendan Rodgers wants the former Chelsea man through the door at Parkhead by Thursday to make him available for the next round of their Champions League qualification campaign – should they get through Lincoln Red Imps on Wednesday – but he is going to have to significantly increase their offer as Villa want £6m for the 27-year-old.
Celtic target Scott Sinclair
The Daily Mail is also reporting that Rodgers has pinpointed two targets as he looks to bolster his defensive options ahead of the new campaign.
As well as Blackburn’s Shane Duffy, the Mail claims that the Hoops want Heerenveen youngster Jerry St Juste. The 19-year-old has made 37 Eredivisie appearances for the side and helped them achieve a mid-table finish last year.
Shane Duffy is also on Celtic’s radar
While Celtic have so far struggled to get deals across the line, with only Moussa Dembele arriving, Rangers have just secured their ninth signing of the summer with Joe Dodoo agreeing a four-year deal at Ibrox, and Mark Warburton has told the Evening Times that they may not be done yet.
“We’re still looking for one or two others and we’re making progress on that front as well,” he told the Evening Times.
Joe Dodoo became Rangers’ ninth signing of the summer
Dodoo has made an exciting prediction regarding what Rangers are capable of following his move by telling the Daily Record that the spirit within the Light Blues’ squad reminds him of what the mood was like amongst the Leicester City side that won the Premier League title last term.
“I sense a similar spirit to Leicester last season here,” he told the Record.
“The lads were together and here it is exactly the same, the lads are just really good friends. That’s got Leicester to where they were because they were a really tight group. I see the same thing here.”
Wes Foderingham has agreed a new deal at Ibrox
It has not only been transfer targets that have been agreeing terms with the Gers recently, as the Daily Record reports that both Wes Foderingham and Rob Kiernan have extended their contracts at Ibrox.
The pair’s one-year extensions come shortly after James Tavernier put any speculation regarding his future to bed by also signing a new contract.
Finally, Leigh Griffiths has told the Daily Mail that Celtic getting an early goal in Wednesday’s second-leg of their Champions League second qualifying round tie with Lincoln Red Imps will frighten the champions of Gibraltar.
“Hopefully, in the second leg we get that early goal and it will frighten them and the crowd will get behind us,” he told the Mail.
The Bhoys go into the game needing to overturn a one-goal deficit.
