However, they face plenty of competition for his signature as the Mail reports that four Championship sides are also monitoring his situation, including Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers.
The same report in the Mail has claimed that the Bhoys’ move for Kolo Toure came after they turned down the chance to sign Villarreal defender Aleksandar Pantic.
The Mail claims that the 21-year-old was attracting Celtic’s attention in January, but they have rejected the chance to bring him in this summer for £1m.

Meanwhile, the Daily Record reports that the Hoops are still keen on signing Scott Sinclair despite having four bids turned down by Aston Villa.
And according to the same report in the Record, Olympiakos have reignited their interest in Celtic defender Efe Ambrose.
The Record claims that the Greek giants are weighing up a £1m move for the Nigerian.
Rangers’ Martyn Waghorn
Over at Rangers, Martyn Waghorn has told the Evening Times that the business that the side has done in the transfer window will help the club make the step-up in the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers have made nine signings, and last season’s top goalscorer is confident that the new faces will help the side move up a level.
“We have brought in a great amount of quality to the squad from last year, which is what we needed to push on to where we need to be, which is pushing on to the title and going for bigger and better things,” he told the Evening Times.
Joey Barton
Finally, one of the summer signings, Joey Barton has told the Evening Times how lucky he feels to now be playing for the Light Blues.
“It is great to come into this side, a side that has got a philosophy that they want to play football and create attacking opportunities,” he told the Evening Times.
“It was an absolute pleasure to play with the lads and some of the rotation and movement between the lines is exceptional.”
