Here is some of the latest news involving both Celtic and Glasgow Rangers, including some of the transfer rumours just a couple of weeks before January.
Former Dundee United goalkeeper Radosław Cierzniak has urged his old club to make a move happen for Celtic forward Nadir Ciftci, The Scottish Sun reports.
The Tangerines want to bring the striker back to the club on loan, but the Hoops would rather he leave on a permanent deal. But Cierzniak has suggested that it could be a great piece of business by the Championship side.
“Nadir would be a great signing. If they could get him, it could be the difference between winning the league or just missing out,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
Celtic’s Jozo Simunovic
Celtic face another battle trying to hold onto centre-back Jozo Simunovic as The Scottish Sun reports that Torino have reignited their interest.
The Serie A side tried to sign the defender in the summer, but the Bhoys now want more than the £3m they wanted for him during the previous window, The Scottish Sun adds.
Erik Sviatchenko has heaped praise upon Moussa Dembele after the striker unselfishly set up Leigh Griffiths for Celtic’s winner during the midweek win over Hamilton rather than attempting to take the chance on himself, the Evening Times reports.
“It showed something of Moussa’s character,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times. “He has been scoring goals all season and showing some great little bits of skill but it definitely said something about him the way he played Griff in.”
Rangers manager Mark Warburton
Meanwhile, Rangers boss Mark Warburton has warned Billy Gilmour that it could be a backwards step for his career if he decides to move away from Ibrox, The Scottish Sun reports.
Gilmour has been attracting attention from the likes from Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Barcelona, but Warburton has suggested that the 15-year-old would be better off staying put.
“You look at the competition at English Premier League clubs and how hard it is for young players to get into their first teams. It is incredibly difficult,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
“What a talent you have to be to get into a top-six Premier League team.”
Joe Garner was one of several permanent summer signings
Warburton has explained why he may be looking predominantly into the loan market this January rather than trying to bring any players in on a permanent basis, The Telegraph reports.
“A loan would be good because clubs don’t want to sell their best players and if they have to they charge double the price. If you are desperately trying to buy a player you end up paying twice the price, so the loan market is the best one, absolutely,” he said, as reported by The Telegraph.
Finally, Warburton has named three players within his Gers squad who should be looking to force their way into Gordon Strachan’s Scotland squad, The Scottish Sun reports.
“I am looking for Danny Wilson, for Jason Holt, who was excellent at the weekend, for Andy Halliday, to stake their claims,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
“Playing well for Rangers, European football if we can get that, that helps their education.”
