Celtic and Rangers have both signed goalkeepers this summer.
The Gers have added Jon McLaughlin to their ranks following Wes Foderingham’s departure on a Bosman, while Neil Lennon has signed Vasilis Barkas after losing loanee Fraser Forster.
Thing is, Rangers’ number one Allan McGregor turns 39 in January and Barkas hardly covered himself in glory for Celtic in the Champions League defeat by Ferencvaros last week.
If we’re honest, both Old Firm outfits probably need additional long-term support between the sticks and maybe a move for Tottenham Hotspur star Paulo Gazzaniga isn’t a bad shout.
According to The Standard, Spurs will listen to offers for their Argentine keeper this summer.
The addition of Joe Hart has pushed Gazzaniga further down the pecking order and he’s simply too good of a goalkeeper to be third choice behind Hugo Lloris and the Englishman.
Should Celtic and Rangers lodge an interest, the good news is that he wouldn’t cost a bomb.
If the North Londoners are actively listening to offers then they’re already at a disadvantage at the negotiation table.
And with Gazzaniga only having two years left on his contract, Tottenham – who cost £2 million in 2017 [The Sun] – surely wouldn’t be that expensive.
Plus, he’s actually a very talented player, and one who has ‘magic hands’ according to Jose Mourinho.
If Rangers and Celtic are in the market for another keeper then this really should be considered.
